Toughening Up for the Midwest Winter: Parking Ramp Coating Refurbishment
Project Description
The NEON Burnsville apartment community completed a vital parking ramp coating project with the help of Concrete Science, boosting durability and safety. This project used Sika’s advanced coating systems to protect the parking structure from Minnesota’s harsh climate. The project employed Sikalastic® Pedestrian Traffic 1500 and Vehicular Traffic 2500 systems, designed for high-traffic areas like parking ramps. The 1500 system, ideal for pedestrian zones, features a seamless, skid-resistant membrane with Sikalastic® M 200 base coat and TC 225 topcoat, offering UV stability and abrasion resistance without a primer. The 2500 system, suited for vehicular traffic, uses a fast-curing, two-component polyurethane (M 270 NP base coat, TC 275 intermediate, and TC 295 topcoat) to resist chemicals like gasoline and de-icing salts, ensuring chloride protection and quick traffic resumption within 24 hours. Both systems, applied in charcoal gray for a sleek look, will enhance safety with skid resistance while extending the structure’s concrete life by preventing freeze and thaw damage.
